What is WIC and why is it important?
- WIC is a Federally funded program that provide nutritious foods to low income Women who are pregnant, breast feeding or with children up until the age of 5
- WIC funding is over $6 billion for the past fiscal year
- 14.6 million individuals are eligible for WIC in any given month but only 9.1 million participate for a national coverage rate of 62.6%
- The Hispanic/Latino percentage of WIC participation is 45% & 31% of WIC have Spanish as their primary language
